Applications for New Student & Family Program’s Family Connection Council are currently available until January 31. The Family Connection Council is a group of voluntary family members who engage with FSU and connect the University with its family members. The mission behind this council is to create long term advocates for the Florida State community and actively engage with the student experience FSU strives to uphold.

If you’re on the fence about whether this opportunity is for you, here are five reasons why you should join the Family Connection Council!

Meet with FSU leadership. Through Family Connection Council meetings, members have the opportunity to meet the Dean of Students and other university leaders to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the university operates.

“I joined the FSU Family Connection Council in an effort to establish a strong relationship and give back to the institution which will provide my student with the necessary tools to succeed in his career and future endeavors.”

Connect with other Florida State families. By joining the Family Connection Council, members are able to meet other dedicated Florida State family members and learn from their perspective and experiences.

Make your voice heard. Family Connection Council often serves as a focus group where members can share their feedback with university leaders and represent all Florida State families.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on Family Connection Council, especially as the parent of a transfer student from out of state. Neither of us knew much about FSU history and traditions, so it was a great way for me to get up to speed on the culture and community of FSU. I also felt my presence on the council, being from out of state, was helpful in terms of providing input and feedback.”

– Shelley Wright, Family Connection Council member

Support student success through fundraising. Through initiatives such as the Garnet & Gold Silent Auction, the Council raises thousands of dollars each year to support student success. Sponsored programs include the Food for Thought Pantry, the FSU Flying High Circus, and the Victim Advocate Program.

Support new Nole families. As part of the Council, you will have multiple opportunities to engage with new Florida State families and share your experience and expertise.

“I love being able to connect with other Nole families and share information with them.”
